Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

In the suburbs of Taipei, we can overlook the beautiful scenery at the foot of the Mt. Guanyin. It lets people appreciate the sounds of chirping in the clump of the reed. After the lake of Taibei and prehistoric human stage, this place was once the large granary. However, the flood made residents leave and plan flood control works. Farms

2. Summary of Our Project

Lujhou City had been the beautiful wetland, but people want to change the nature now. We want to discuss the life in Luh Jiang wetland. We hope to save wetlands not only because wetlands are facing serious damage and endless thereat, but because we want to recall people's sweet memories of wetlands, such as catching frogs, rowing boats, fishing and so on. Nevertheless, in modern life, these memories are getting farther and farther away from us.

There are three computer classrooms and more than 120 PCs in our school. We can use on-line computers after school.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The materials collected might not be suitable for our wetland, so we need on-site inspection and inquire teachers or books. We also need to study many software, such as Namo, FrontPage, Flash. We will not finish unless pay very great endurance.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

1. We have an opportunity to discover cultural history of the native. 2. Classmates , teachers ,and parents experience the wetland. 3. Interview community people 4. Designing the illustrated handbook of relevant information

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Nature , society , Chinese , mathematics and computer can all be applied to this match. We also learn to analyse, discuss and cooperate. We can search informations by the network quickly. We hope our efforts can be shared with the friends in whole world.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computers, telephones, recorders, video and digital cameras, digitizers and scanners, computer software, our school librariy and community librariy, Mangrove Forest Exhibition Hall. We learned the skills by testing and asking. Each helps us a lot.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We invite classmates, teachers, and parents to experience the wetland. We had sent out the questionnaire to relatives, friends and community people, visited the wetland executive chairman , wilderness volunteers and a lot of person of government unit. Some local journalists reported us.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We combine knowledge and idea about wetland living beings, environmental resources and crisis of the publice, and then introduce our achievements to the people of community. We hope everybody has new space to rest.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Thanks for our school's teacher, especially Dean's Office Mr. Chen , and Mr. Li. Thanks for wetland executive chairman Mr. lai , our parents, the wilderness volunteers and all the people helping us to visit and learn.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

I find that the life is colourful and has experienced that ecological destruction is easy, but it need much time to recover. It was tiring to ride my bicycle everywhere, but I learn a lot, too.
