1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
Tools used: 14 Computers, 2 digital cameras, 2 scanners, 1 projector, 2 printers, 2 notebooks, 2 digital video cameras, 11 flash disks
Software used: Win98, Frontpage 2000, PhotoImpact 7.0, Word 2000, Namo 5.5, Flash Mx, Cuteftp, Dreamweaver Mx.
Most useful tools: The digital camera enables us to take snapshots and convert the photos into the computer without any delay. Flash disks are also very convenient to save documents we collected. As to sofewares, we don’t limit to particular sofewares for using those we are familiar with, such as Frontpage2000?Namo web editor?PhotoImpact?Flash…etc.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
Our team members act like “ambassadors” to introduce our homeland to the people all over the world. We interview Liu Tsung-chu (Vice Mayor of Junghe), the narrators of The Associaiton for the Cultural and Historical Studies of Tiong-ho Town, local people, Fan Wen-hui (Head of Chin-Chang Alley), Wu Ming-hsueh (our school Principal), and Dean of School Academic Affairs Department. We contacted with the interviewees by phone before calling on them and E-mail them our interview questions in advance. In the process of interviewing, we arranged one student for shooting, one for sound recording, one for notes taking and other team members helped to work up and analyzed the contents of interviews and put the information on our website.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
This project is about local descriptions of culture and history in Junghe, focusing on Shr-bi-hu Mountain and sightseeing industry. Because Jing-ho High School is located fifteen-minutes far away from Shr-bi-hu Mountain, it is convenient for our team to search and collect useful information about our project. Thanks to many local people who help us a lot in our community could we complete our project. In terms of the process of researching, we become more confident and more informed about our homeland, Junghe City. Through our pages, more foreign visitors will likely be attracted to visit sightseeing spots of Junghe or to have a more profound and knowledgeable trip here. In this way, this project really not only benefits the community but also improves knowledge and abilities of our own. We are deeply moved by the hospitality of the local people.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
We should never have been able to complete this project without the help and supports of local people. In the process of interviewing or collecting information on Shr-bi-hu Mountain, we contacted with many local people, like visitors, those citizens exercising early in the morning, vendors, climbers of Mountain Climbing Association…etc. They were highly interested in our project and give us their knowledge and living experiences enthusiastically. We also cooperated with The Association for the Cultural and Historical Studies of Tiong-ho Town. The historic narrators in the association gave us lots of useful information about our project. Besides, we were informed by the head of local district with plenty documents about Junghe history. At last but not the least, the school and the teachers always gave us the proper suggestions and help when we were in needs.
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
In achieving our project, we discovered that everything we see around us involves some history, which we used to ignore before. This discovery converts our attention on the past and stories of all the old structures in our hometown, Junghe City. Junghe City is such a good place that has good environment, good location and good local citizens. This research project was an excellent opportunity for us to prove our abilities no matter in school textbooks or extracurricular knowledge. In terms of researching, we realized that culture and history of Junghe need to be handed down with generations and all of us should be responsible for protecting the land we live on!
