Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Yilan is a beautiful place with good climate and environment. Not only the well-known natural sceneries such as Suao Cold Spring and Jiaosi Hot Spring, but also the tasty traditional food to eat. Nothing is allowed to harm such a wonderful place.

2. Summary of Our Project

In modern life, you can go anyway with any transportation in Taiwan. Train is not always the most convenient way to travel from one place to another. But we can’t replace it by other ways because of the particular cultural and natural sceneries which near the railway stations. So we are going to focus on the railway stations in Yilan County and introduce the sceneries nearby them.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

FTTP

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The biggest problem of us is that we were not allowed to go out all the time. Because our parents think that we should concentrate on studying. And the places we went were always far away from home, it made them worry, too. So we seven could not always be together, and went visit the station.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Thanks for everyone who helped us. We had already tried our best! And we are the best!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

In the text book of the Dialects in Yilan County, students have to learn about the whole county in fifth grade. And it mentions the traffic in the county, too. We think it’s a good choice to go to other places by train for the people in Yilan. So we focus on the 22 train station, the trip by train, and the sceneries near the station. We learned lots of skills about making homepage in this project. Especially we learned how to make homepage and edit pictures by Namo. Most important of all, we learned how to buy tickets and how to choose the train. So we will not take the wrong train any more. We found that no one can do all things at the same time. Some of us are good in writing, some are good in drawing, and one of us is very good in searching information. So we separated the project into several parts, some drew pictures, some made the connection, some wrote the article, and one of us only responsible for the progress report. We played the role of guide. People who live here can find that it’s so interesting to travel by train, and there are so many beautiful sceneries in our county.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Computers-Make homepage, search information on the net. Scanner-Scan the tickets and graphs, and put them on the page. Photo Impact 6.0-Make buttons, and edit pictures. Namo Webeditor 4.0-Make homepage. MS paint-Picture drawing.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We learned from Mr. Lin very much. He said that he liked to visit stations by train at the leisure time, so he had been visited most of the stations in Yilan County. He is my biggest information station! And we also learned so much from Mr. Lee and Mr. Lei. They know many places that we have never heard before. Mr. Lee told us many stories happened in his childhood when we asked him about the Yilan Chungshan Park, the stories were so interesting! And Mr. Lei always told us some tips to have fun. Because he always goes out traveling on the weekend, and knows lots of things that we can’t find on the net or in the book.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We have learned about how to buy ticket and how to recognize the type of trains. So we would not buy the wrong tickets or take the wrong train to go to other places. This is the most important part of what we learned in this project. We hope that people who check our homepage can have passion about the train; After all, traveling by train is such an interesting thing!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We have showed the homepage to our teachers. They said that the picture we drew was good, and the information was rich, included some places that they have never heard before! One teacher even said that he should show the homepage in class for teaching. But some teachers also advised that we can do it more, to make the subject clearer.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We always expected the days we went out together. We found different surprises every time. We saw seascape in the north and saw beautiful mountains in the south. Although we had to walk a long distance every time, and we’re really tired, we still liked to do this. We started to know that there are still many places we had never heard before, and they are really worth to visit.
