Project Overview

Our community ,Wen-Long ,being located at Taipei county in Taiwan .Wen-Long was an excellent graveyard filled with the spiritual influence that could bless the posterity of resident to create a new ruler. But in Manchu dynasty ,Emperor Guangxu built the railroad to destroy the spiritual influence and divided Wen-Long into three administrative areas. From now on ,Wen-Long became a area that nobody wanted to be responsible for. There is factory everywhere at Wen-Long ,eighty percent of the resident is out -comer .Not knowing the history of this area, they do not work hard to safeguard and cherish the environment. Therefore ,Wen-Long has lost his elegant appearance at present. But a lot of the resident still fell hopeful about the future of our community , they are pleasure to devoting himself to make the area beautiful and glory again!

Today along with medicine of flourishing ,LSL faces to be taken apart ,turn to be the mass transit system ,and been forgotten by the future generations forever. We will tell everybody a sad and moving story about LSL and the patient of the leprosy.

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.The Language: The Average age of the leprosy patient is 72 ,they speak Fukien dialect which we do not acquaint with. We consulted our teachers and parents order to understand the patient when interviewing.

2. Limited resources of the project information: The current data about LSL is scarce. To do this project , we had to do the first hand investigation. Due to interview others for the first time , we are all nervous. While interviewing, we made the notes slowly and often wrote the misprint. However , through practice repeatedly , we finally overcome the obstacles. To advice our parent to interview the patent is another big problem. We spend much time finding out the data to approve that leprosy would not influence easily. At last , we make it.

3. Different schedules: Team members involving in this project had different schedules such as cram school,to work on the project smoothly,we needed to communicate more often and kept every one updated. Our teachers and team leader helped a lot.

4. Technical obstacles: Most of our team members were fresh to this CyberFair. Some of us even were novice of making homepage and processing images. Our teachers spent about sixty thousand dollars buying a digital camera ,a scanner ,and six computers for us to use. We also learned web-making after school everyday ,neither windy nor rainy day.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In the earlier period, we were easy to associate leprosy patients with bedlamite in Taiwan. Now, we understand that leprosy was just a disease because of worse hygiene and environment. The patients are not so terrible, either. In fact, they are friendly to us and we also become good friends with them. The leprosy patients did not commit crime, they just sick. Consider the situation,if you got sick, nobody care about you but want to catch you to prison. How terrible it is. We hope to help everybody to understand and fair with them.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

1. Education of life: In our daily life, we would meet the unexpected obstacle. To give up or insist to go, this is a question .From the story of patients, we learn to be courageous and look the bright side of this world. 2. Social service: In our opinion, the elementary school students do not have the ability to help others. But we are more confidence because it is not so difficult indeed. We can performance the flute, play sticks, or chat to please them. 3. Lots of our parent regard computers as another game machines, and they avoid us getting in touch with. But we proved the technology itself is neutral, we can use it to learn by our own and make better interaction with society.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1. We always use telephone to contact those uncles and aunts who help us to arrange interviews. 2. Watching the videotape about leprosy patient which recorded by the Tzuchi charity.

3. Most of our photos is taken from the digital camera bought by our teacher. We use two tape recorders and lots of tapes during our interviews, too. 4. We also notebook and projector them during the circuit lecture at our school. 5. We were invited by China Broadcast company and shared our experience of getting touch with the patient of the on the air.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Len-Sheng leprosarium(LSL) is near to our school,we usually spend about 15 minutes by walking here .We interviewed about thirty related person. Including the staff and patient of LSL, the clergy of the Tzuchi charity, Catholic and Christianity, the chairman of the Taiwanese Leprosy Association and Chinese Leprosy Association, the members of Len-Sheng Service Team at Fu-Zen University. Knowing we would like make the record of LSL, they are glad to offer help. On the “Day of Prevention Leprosy of the World”, we also performanced at LSL to bless the patients and bring laughter to them. We also shared our experience of getting touch with the patient by broadcasting.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Leprosy is an incurable and terrible disease time immemorial. In addition to stand the suffering of the body from the disease, larger injury comes from that the society is unfair to them. Even the disease is curable completely today, lots of patients still can't be accepted by the public. The patients live a hellish of life. After getting in touch with them, we understand that they are not different from us. They even launches to raise the others once again, such as Taiwan 921 Earthquake. No wonder that master Cheng yen claimed LSL is “Somewhere Beyond the Heaven.” While passing through LSL before, we always think it is strange and frightened inside. After investing, we realize how large injury caused by misunderstanding. So we always seize every opportunity to tell everybody that the patient of leprosy is not terrible, everybody should treat them with fair.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We want to thanks the following person to help us to complete the mission. the clergy of the Tzuchi charity, Catholic and Christianity, the chairman of the Taiwanese Leprosy Association and Chinese Leprosy Association, the members of Len-Sheng Service Team at Fu-Zen University. Without their help, we ca not finish our project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We learn the importance of cooperation. We learn the great power of the religion to help the patient to live a new life.
