Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The concept behind creating a site about Taipei County is because all the team members are coming from and around the greater Taipei County, mostly Hsing-Chung city and Pan-Chaio city, which we believe it will be interesting to go in depth to explore the beauty of this place where there is a common denominator among us.

2. Summary of Our Project

Taipei County itself imbeds many precious historical values worth of researching upon plus its rapid changing and growing nature provokes the commercial buildings to be constantly torn down and rebuilt for a newer look. Over the past while, the Taipei County has just built a brand new post-modern look building and its historical values, administrative functions and architectural design intrigue our curiosity to study further on this architecture.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:not sure

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We conduct this project mainly at Mr. Wei-Chang, Yao’s home, from the Planning department, using 516/64K broadband network initially but later changed to 1.5M/348K constant type ADSL. Sometimes we would use school’s servers or at our own home using either 512/64 broadband or 56K dial-up network.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Yao is the key person in charge of website development and the vast amount of work load is flowing over him which he has to finish everything within a certain time constraint. Also we have to put off the project several times due to mid-term exams and this stopped us from discussing or even moving further into the project.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It is an excellent experience for all participants. All members have learned not only about teamwork for which we all worked very hard together to obtain eligibility to enter this competition but also become closer friends appreciating each other’s support and friendship. Nevertheless, we wish to win this competition by all means.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We can learn the architectural design of this County building and how municipal officer work on daily basis.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We can not live without THE computer to accomplish this mission. We use FrontPage for website development; PhotoImpact for organizing web materials and images; Flash for creating animation, etc. For the actual photos you see in the website are taken by digital camera. As well, we inserted a lot of news gathered from print media and on-line news pages. Further we have to mention the power of email which we utilize as communication medium with County office workers. Last but not least, we also adopt questionnaire to collect needed statistical information.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

One of our primary missions is to interview all important figures who work in the County office including the County Chief of the Taipei County. Unfortunately, we could not catch the chief from his packed schedule; instead, we conducted interviews with him via emails more. When we first expressed our interest conducting a research on the county building to the County officers, they were all very supportive to our idea and provide us heaps of information. Moreover, during the same period, the city council was organizing a “2003 National Sport Event” for the sports lover alike in the city and that was indeed a bonus to our project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During questionnaire sessions, many do not even know the existence of this building and thought this is just one of the many commercial buildings being built in the city. But later, after our explanation, they then come to realize that this building also holds an exhibition hall with restaurant in it – a multifunctional building.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We are very copyright conscious for which we inquire permissions of image and text we plan to use from the holders. Despite this, we finish most of the content ourselves due to the existing difficulty in obtaining the copyrights from copyright holders. Therefore, we assure the same action taken from those of you who try to download something from our website.
