1. Description of Our Community

The Guan-Shan Village, Nang-Hua Country on Tainan County is named after the aboriginal “West Ali-Guan” and then it is officially called “Guan-Shan Village”. It initially belonged to the domain of Fong-Shang County with the altitude from 250m to 900m, typically a hillside slope area with mountains and streams surrounded. There are 3 precious treasures including beautiful mountains, streams and excellent ecology conservation. Within the ancient Taiwan County Documentary Articles, it said this is a place of clouds and mountainous areas. From the documentary context, we can readily recognize its originality and crudeness with rare human activity then. Thanks to this situation, it abounds in animals, plants and insects. People live by bamboo and mango as their daily colorful traits in culture.

2. Summary of Our Project

Have you ever seen the movie of “Crouching Tiger and Hiding Dragon” with the beautiful bamboo fields? Have you ever found those small lovely bamboo shoots hidden on the ground? Have you ever hold the DIY bamboo tea cup with the flower nectar and plum tea in hands to enjoy the irresistible fragrance and flavor? Along the county route 179 and the Guan-Shan community within the Ho-Jieu stream valley, we frequently meet with the bamboo together with its unique pleasant odor in the air and the bamboo will be the very living means of economic activities. This time, we hope to take this opportunity of the participation of Global Website Fair to create a new database of web pages to allow people knowing much more about this village and its bamboo culture. Let’s insight the true colors of “Guan-Shan Bamboo Trail”!

In our school, there are 17 (including 6 PC in each class) computers, plus with servers and administrative PC, totally 28 PC. We create a school intranet to link to the Internet Center of Tainan County by ADSL. This connection will be convenient for students for their own web page preparation after school together with the information gathering.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

(1).The Difficult Beginning Whatever You Do This is our first to take this Bamboo Theme as our research project with the seemingly unprecedented pride for this relevant preparation we experienced.After well defining the spindles for our research arrangement with numerous discussion meetings, we are quite delightful that we can carry out our first step for our growth experience. (2).Time Table Time is never waiting for man and we are limited to a certain period of time with all the preparation well completed most efficiently.Many thanks to the kind help from our teachers and parents, we finally complete this task with all possible favors from people surrounding us. (3).Personal Interaction During the research process, the people involvement also plays a very important role from team works, field researches and people interview with the critical significance for us to learn the communication skills with people. We hereby owe our gratitude to everyone we meet for their kindness, allowing our childish generations with the excellent opportunity to grow. (4).The Application of Technology & Information Media After experiencing with whatever and whoever we have encountered, by using technology novelty – digital record stick, digital cameras, DV and PC -, we note down whatever we think it to be worthy deep in our memory. We come to find the fact that technology always originates from the humane true demand in nature. But, sometimes, the endeavoring people will fail because of deficient experience with the substantial understanding that it actually exists in the gap between imagination and reality.What a bitter ordeal it is!Harsh yet worthy!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

(1).Boost the hometown care through community recognition This is the only one elementary school within this region and there are numerous interactive involvements among people. We will create a database of web pages with all information gathered to promote our local features and culture well known to the whole world. (2).Field Research for Natural Resource to Create Educational Materials We start with the field research activities to visit the community elders with interview information gathered and we carefully note down the community features and culture integrated into our community educational materials. (3).Materialize the environmental education contexts to raise the ecology explanatory pioneers We lead the children to personally sense with the environmental education to raise the ecology protection pioneers as the best explanatory staffs for sightseeing visitors, allowing more visitors with much more knowledge about our community. (4).Hometown Love yet Global Vision Thanks to the currently well developed information technology, we will compile the written information to share with the seamless link to the whole world. Thus, we can reach the wonderfully successful step into the world. (5).Integrate the Activity Range to Make the Educational Materials with our own Uniqueness Through the manifold phased theme design for educational materials, we will lead the children intothe outdoor survival skills with the capability to cook food of no available utensils.We expect that this capability of children will meet the demand from their local environment and also create the unique features of our school. (6).Create Unique School Features & Versatile Art and Human Atmosphere We incessantly develop our school ideology of “Green School” with the versatile aspects to reveal our local culture and features –bamboo. In addition to its edibility, in the view of aesthetics, we will raise the knowledge and appreciation capability of children. Through the creative handicrafts of bamboo, such as bamboo can adorned hallway, there are still some small and beautiful flowerpots.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Probably driven by our curiosity, along the South Cross Road, we follow the small road sign reading Guan-Shan of the county route 197 and can feel the coolness of autumn.Suddenly, we find a lovely small elementary school it is!The people’s amazed laugh roars into the sky form the coaches with the irresistible attraction for everyone to find out its mystery. The green school playground, there are many adults and children passing through the bamboo fields.Yet, he shows his frankness and enthusiasm to relay whatever he can.From tea cup, monotype and family pottery production, we can host some activities like these to close the relation between school and parents. This is a very good activity to make students actually experience the painstaking efforts of their parents full of the positive inspiration. It occurs to me that I never agree with the idea that this island exists in the gap between municipal and rural regions.Before our departure to somewhere else, they still remind us about their school homepage for more details by ourselves. 3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this theme research project, it makes me insightfully know about their local features and culture. This is the only one school there as the culture center of community. Only through the bridging cooperation between and community and school, we just can team up for upcoming development and promotion in culture by exalting the self recognition and community companionship sense of our students. The establishment of school website can make people know much more about their own humane and economical cultures and customs with the positive help for sales promotion and product package. Furthermore, through the beauty of Guan-Shan Village, we can improve the linkage and depth between economical aspects and culture with the most convenient accesses for global people to browse our website. They can thoroughly understand the very pride of Guan-Shan Village, the culture of Bamboo.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

After the research theme is determined and directed, every one spares no effort to collect the information of local bamboo plantation.From the very beginning, we find there are numerous websites detailed with professional analysis and images to amaze us dazzlingly. In order to make our website information colorful and ample, we deliberately inquire the acceptance from the original authors for our article quotation. Luckily, they generously access us to quote their articles and images with the clearly authors and data sources marked on our webpage. We hereby thank for their kindness very much. Furthermore, the school teachers also provide us with numerous reference books. 5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

(1).Discover the Beauty of Guan-Shan Village Poem—The moon view of hometown is dearest to me and I covet most for the wine made my land. No doubt, in my eyes, the most beautiful bamboo will be those cultivated by my fellow villagers. We can find the elegance of bamboo pose and personally touch the fresh greenish essence. It seems to tell us a good example of never surrendering plant. The versatility of bamboo has astounded us quite a lot. Once we start to feel, observe and watch and we can the beauty hidden everywhere in our world! (2).Inspiring Education This is our first time to deeply get involved into the theme research. From the very beginning, we thought the time will be enough. Impeded by the inexperienced projection and unexpected events, we are forced to delay. There runs a saying that projection never catch up with the swift. People always grow from their own experiences. Through group meetings, communications and reviews, everything seems to get from good to better. This experience also realize the importance of time schedule and personnel relation. (3).Amazement Everwher, Bamboo All Around After a series of interview activities, we suddenly find the fact that our life is full of the benefit made by bamboo including food, shelter, transportation and toys. It is exactly what we call a particle of sand constitutes a wonderful world; a flower makes the fabulous heaven. When we retrospect the most beautiful thins in our life, we usually ignore its significance because it always accompany with us.
