Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our hometown, Anjing Village, is located in the highland between Chuchi town and Mei-Shan town of Chiayi County. Going from Provincial Road 3 and then transferring to Chiayi highway 115 can reach to the place. There are lots of resorts, including I-leow, She-ar tuo, Nangin leow, Hu dee, Sur dze leow, Kun-dzai ping, Dzang pu leow, Gin hu jeow, Swai gin dza, etc. The ancient Anjing village includes five hamlets. People here are diligent, simpleminded, and united. Nowadays most villagers earn their living by planting orchids and oranges.

2. Summary of Our Project

Before graduation, we do hope that people around the world can know our hometown, Anjing village, which is a wonderful place with abundant cultural history and natural resources by the Internet. After deeply discussion and research, we decided to collect all the information and rearrange them to introduce our village specifically on our web site. On the web page, we'll show the visitors about the geography, the history and location of the rivers, locals' stories, famous produces, local animals, and tour guide to let visitors know better about our hometown.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

On account of the beginner of making web page and dealing some technical problems, we depend on Mr. L to be our instructor. By planning the project, we learned a lot from it. Only two teammates have the Internet at home, so most jobs must be done at school. Since the whole project was decided a little behind the time, it was really hurry for us to do the research. But it still didn't damage any of our determination and perseverance. We used time well and tried our best to collect all the related information and data. Well, still some flaws need to be corrected. The communication and data exchange between our teammates need to be beefed up.

This is the first time that we participate in such a project. Though the concept we have, we still have no idea how to begin in the first place. So, we start the project step by step and learn from mistakes.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

By means of joining the project, we realized that cooperation is the most important element to complete the task. Also we find the knowledge exists not only in books but in the nature. To walk out of the classroom, the places around us are full of surprising and only one thing you have to do is to discovery them by heart.

Anjing, our hometown, is a lovely place and we know better after the project. The deeper we discover, the more we treasure. It's really honorable to participate this project.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We learned how to edit webs and do theresearch. We discovered students really can do things beyond their abilities. What kids need is a nice guide and demonstrations. And then they realized the importance of cooperation through the process.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The tools we used are as follows:

1. telephone 2. digital camera 3. photo recorder 4. scanner 5. computer and software 6. books and newspaper

The most helpful tool are computers and the Internet resources.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We did the research in cooperative ways, and that's really effective. The term, ambassadors, means teamwork for us. With this way and humble attitude, we interviewed the leader of Anjing village and artist, master Wu, getting lots of useful information. We also visit some places in person in order to prove the reality of the information.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Though the project didn't have any influence on our community now, we hoped that more people will know such a lovely place through our web page. Further, we can draw more attention of locals to cherish what they have now and preserve these resources activity.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We had many timely help from local people. They're willing to offer what they know and what they have to help us. They thought that the project is meaningful. We considered that the data and oral explanation were valuable.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Honestly, it's difficult for elementary students to complete the whole research. “No pain, no gain”, we really understand its meaning through the process and realize that cooperation is far than any single power. We're glad that our web page is completed. We are so proud!
