Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Liu-Xin was the former Jin-Yue. It is located among the Central Mt. and opposite with the Nan-Hu Mt.. Liu-Xin is in the central of old tribes in Nan-Ao country. It is not only a main market but also the biggest tribe. People say that our ancestors moved from Fa- Xiang village, Ren-Ai country, Nan-Tou county to old tribe Liu-Xin. We never know when we moved to old tribe Liu-Xin. During the governance of Holland and Japan, we know we have been staying in old tribe Liu-Xin. We couldn prove it because there is no documents to be sure of it. What we can do is passing down things by telling for description. After Chinese government moved to Taiwan, government persuade every aboriginal chief move from the mountain to the plain. I think it is all for the easiness of controlling things. After discussing for years, we finally moved in 1956 to 1957. In 1958, all the people already moved to Jin-Yue and it was called Deer Village.

2. Summary of Our Project

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We complete this task by using computers of school's . The connection is cable by education net. The web page was stored at the teacher's pc.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The difficulties we face

(1)Time arrangement:

We have interview with some people of our community by our flexible classes. We deal with all the data at 19:00 to 21:00 on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and the I-Lan university students would give us some assistant as well.

The ways for solving problems: Students always have different schedule on weekend, so we had better complete every task by using the time when they are in school.

(2)The structure of project:

Main parts of project are the history of ballads and tribe. We collect more information and data from those two parts, including ballads, dance, stage property and locals.

The ways for solving problems:

It is tough when we have interview, people here not only speak the Tayal language but also speak Japanese sometimes. We seem don’t have too many resources of it, but it turn into fine after the help from the passionate locals. The Tayal people might forget something about themselves after staying here with other tribe people for years. Even though, we still can find some useful information via the chief, and locals.

(3)The procedure of the interview and the method:

Teachers and students joined this task together. We use digital camera and digital video for the interview recording and then enter the whole information we got.

The ways for solving problems:

During the interview and recording, students seem can't understand the method and the technic well. They need to improve their typing and the technical ability. Besides that, I think students can have some chance for being outside a little bit.

(4)Data collection and classification

We collect the right information by using internet, libraries, people interview, etc.

The ways for solving problems

The uneasy part is that we don't have completed history. Fortunately, we can make it by the assistant from the elder of our community and country government.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

During the task, students not only have more confidence about them but also know more about their own culture. From this activity, I expect students can understand more about the Tayal dance and ballads, and also can learn it happily. In the future, the students might increase their own recognition and pass down the Tayal culture to others. For teachers, this activity makes us know more about the Tayal culture and what more is we already connected with the whole community. We anticipate that this world can see the culture and content of the Tayal as well in the near future.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

By the progress of the world, lot of valued culture has been gone gradually. The Ministry of Education put local lesson teaching as part of the lesson. In that way, people can cherish the culture we have, the place we were born, the history and the meaning, etc. We have much chance for knowing our history and culture. From the research, we could experience the difference between the opposite cultures.

The content of the education principle stresses on developing the ability of students. We started to know how to use every tool for collecting information, classify it into article and then beautify it be our web page. We start to realize how important to communicate with people via the interview, such like the planning of interview, designing of questionary and time arrangement. It needs team work , strong will and perseverance to complete this task and it helps us a lot in learning.
