Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Hsien Shen Temple, located in the Erchong Pu district, Sanchong City, Taipei County. The area was originally a settlement of the aborigines – a fishing/hunting ground for the Wulaowan tribe. In older days, the celebrations on the birthday of Shen-None was such as fanfare. In recent years, local schools, organizations, and cultural workers gathered their forces to jointly develop social education in the city, wishing to develop the place into a characteristic community. 2. Summary of Our Project

Hsien Shen Temple is the only third-class historic landmark in Sanchong City. It has been a center of belief for 250 years. The main deity worshipped here is the “Grand Emperor Shen None”, which was brought in by pioneers from Fujian, China in the Qianlong Period of Qing Dynasty.Shen None has been a God worshiped by farmers since very early on in the civilization. The Hsien Temple fully represents the colors of a local guardian temple. Its beauty in the architecture is one of the most important treasures among other temples in Taiwan.See more to visit our project web)

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Chien-Wen: In this activity, I not only learned the stories of the Hsien Shen Temple but also the power and importance of solidarity. Because we are all very busy doing our studies, this time, I learned an important lesson; that is, good time management is the best strategy. (See more to visit our project web)

5. Our Project Sound Bite

A historic landmark doesn’t have to be an artifact standing for hundreds or thousands of years in its original form. Especially for a building, after it has been through rains and winds, most of them more or less deteriorate. In this project, the Sanchuan Hall part of the historic landmark in our subject is coincidently under maintenance. We were really touched by the efforts people put in to preserve the beautiful site. Because of their hard work, we now still have the chance to see this two-hundred-year-old treasure.(See more to visit our project web)

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We have annexed the part – “Get to Know the Hsien Shen Temple” into the curriculum of our school. The subject will also be introduced to students in Arts and Culture, General Knowledge, and Information Science classes. The structure of the curriculum is shown in our Project Web.(See more to visit our project web)

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In the meeting for the competition, I have heard from the speakers twice that the least culturally characteristic places in Taipei County are Taishan Township and our Sanchong. After I heard such talks, a wave of sadness flowed into my heart.Actually, we didn’t participate in the competition last year. This year, after we signed up for it, I took a long time to think about what we want to do.The Arts and Culture teacher said that if we don’t do the Hsien Shen Temple, what do we do, since we live here in Sanchong? At the first sound of it, I couldn’t help but wonder whether it is true that there is nothing else to do about the Sanchong City; like that, we decided on the subject of Hsien Shen Temple.(See more to visit our project web)

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Although there is no shortage of classes about exploration of the Hsien Shen Temple in elementary and junior high schools in Sanchong, after I got on the net and searched for related information, I found that there is really not much information on this topic, and most of them are pretty limited on a very small scope. It looks like Sanchong people really do not know much about their own culture because rarely any people know such a valuable third-class historic landmark.(See more to visit our project web)
