Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

MOCA, Taipei is located in the old block formed by four important roads. Nanking West Road in the north, Chengde Road in the west, Chungshan North Road in the east and Civil Avenue Express Wag in the south. Besides, it is closely near Taipei Main Station. Among these road, Nanking west Road and Chungshan North Road are both bustling. Nanking West Road is the most prosperous district nearby, which has some department stores, such as IDEE and Hsinkuang. Also, it has a MRT station, Tanshui Line in its eastern side.

2. Summary of Our Project

We take a look at MOCA in four direction:One is the character of contemporary art; The second is the history of MOCA, Taipei; The third is the interaction between MOCA, Taipei; The fourth is the interaction between MOCA, Taipei and JCJH. Furthermore, we interviewed the people closely related to contemporary art to help us find the answer during the process of our research.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

(1).Set up the skeleton: Group members have to look for the data of MOCA, Taipei. Thus, we all have a lot of materials to read. During reading them, we also have to analyze and classily them. (2).The pressure of the exam: After establishing the skeleton, we have to choose one topic to work in and divide the data into major and minor reading. In so short two months we have to prepare for the exam and also to read the data. So tired we are. However, it's so lucky that we have already been divided into groups. (3).The content: Many content in our reading were so hard to understand. Luckily, we had three teachers to direct us so that we got much better understanding in them. (4).(4)The limit time to finish After the exam, we all started to enrich our website. context, interview and skeleton are all worked out right before the final exam. We worked so hard that weekends are no more holidays to us. Fortunately, the schoolbrother and schoolsister, who as well joined the program last year, went to cheer us up. (5).The differences of members' specialty Upon dividing into groups, we selected one that met up with our specialty. But, when it mentioned to interviewing, we all team moved on.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this program, we enhanced our ability of: (1) How to search for the data (2) How to fuse and personify the outcome of different groups. (3) How to classify the data in producing the web. We have confidence that the web will be the one which introducing MOCA, Taipei most clearly and comprehensively so far.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The school -based curriculum of our school...... Neighbor of Art indeed means MOCA. The seventh graders have already been in contact with the course. We designed our web on the basis of the course and also added lesson plan and worlcsheet into our page. By doing so, the web can be used in other school or by our teachers in the future. In addition, the student can use the web to search for the information they want.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

In the beginning as we are setting up our skeleton, our teachers directed us to use the internet search system in Central Library. As well, they asked us to copy down the contents of some references. After that, we classified the data we found and used scanner, copy machines to make copies of the data we need. When interviewing, we also used digital Camera and recording pens to record the content of the interview In making the web, we use FrontPage and Photo impact,

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Students will contact the interviewees by phone and then fax them the plan and content. Of course, the time and place of the interview should also be set up. Certainly, after the interview, we faxed one record of the interview to the interviewee to ensure its accuracy.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Among our members , most are family whit MOCA However , when talking about 'modern art', we became confused During this program , we have know much more about about the histrical meaning of modern art . It's also because of this opportunity , we can go and back from MOCA for several times . After the web is finished , we believe there are more people understanding the meaning of MOCA's existence

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

From books and journals , we found one that is the most close to MOCA , teachers in JCJH and neighboring stores are all our counsultant . Besides , we have to thank the head of our community , Chien-Tai Li , for his valuable information .

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After this work , we understood that it's absolutely not an easy tusk to run an art museum . Furthermore , to propagate it around is more difficult , much less MOCA , an only museum in Taiwan aiming at exhibit modern art . During the interview , Miss Ching-Shin Wu told us the concept of 'Users should pay' We should not complain about the ticket price because the intellectual privacy of these artist should not be overlooked . In addition , when we are so used to living beside such a unique museum , totally forget that MOCA may move away or close one day . therefore , after the specialty , we promise we will cherish our best neighbor -MOCA , and will invite our relatives and friends to join the exhibition here .
