Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

It is believed that Department of Music of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), a college for educating musician as well as cultivating academic specialists, has been compared to a miniature among the historical development and figures in Taiwan’s musical stage. For the half century, many a graduate was educated in the musical department of NTNU and then spread to everywhere around the world. To revive the life of music, we have to promote the beauty of the music. As a professor Hsu Tsang-houei, who is a national musician, compounded a lot of aboriginal music to ordinaries.

2. Summary of Our Project

Professor Hsu Tsang-houei traveled all the temples and monasteries around the northern and central parts of Taiwan to collect the traditional Taiwanese music. Between 1966 and 1967, Professor Hsu began to travel around Taiwan to collect more than 2000 falling treasures --- folk songs, including Han Tribe and aboriginals and discover several Taiwanese musicians. As for the survey of national music, Professor Hsu guided a group to do the field survey, like the researches of local songs and religious music.

Most of our monographic report was preceded at home in the winter vacation by using the Internet. And then we applied a space in the Internet to store the data that we collected.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

At the beginning, we were not very familiar with the process. Thus, we confronted a lot of problems with things, like processing images, collecting information, producing animated pictures and so on. Among all these staff, interviewing with Professor Hsu is the mission impossible because he had passed out two years ago. Apart from that, we only had some references; those materials were not enough for us. To overcome those difficulties, we figured out another way to interview with Professor Hsu’s students. Through interviewing with his students, we not only solved the problems of collecting data but also led us to see this project with a new scope to continue our job. Thanks to our efforts, finally we finished the project.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this report, we got a valuable experience of the importance of team work. However, it is so pity that we can’t meet the goal that we had expected. Due to the time limited, we deleted several parts of our projects. Nevertheless, we still did our best and made this project to be perfect. No matter what the results will be, the most cherish experience is that we learned the importance of Taiwanese traditional music and a great celebrity, Professor Hsu Tsang-houei.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The purpose of embarking on the exhibition of network is to help us discover the needs of class and teaching programs in school. Professor Hsu Tsang-houei, is without doubt contributed to the traditional music. We are able to have the idea about whose various experiences of composition. With the experience of doing homepage, as a foundermental practice in the coming computer lesson, we are going to be good at doing homepages and interviewing as precious experiences that would be practical in life.
