1. Description of Our Community

Huanlien is a beautiful place retreating away from the turmoil of the world with rich resources of tourism. Fu Yuan Forest Amusement Park lies in Northwest of Fu Yuan Village, Juei Shui Village, Hualien County, originating from Fu Yuan Stream of Tan Ta Mountain. In the amusement park, precious rain forest of broadleaf trees are flourishing. Walking along the mountain, one can look HuaTung vertical valleys far into the distance and look down at Fu Yung stream valley. Dense broadleaf trees and camphor trees provide habits for birds, butterflies as well as a natural classroom with rich teaching resources.

2. Summary of Our Project

Butterfly Valley is an old name for Fu Yuan Forest Amusement Park, once a home for butterflies. Numerous species in great quantity of butterflies were rarely seen at other places. However, butterflies have been dying away in the park recently. children and I thus will find out the cause of missing butterflies. Is that true as two major reasons caused the butterfly distinction as old men said,?Government forest policy at that time and human collection resulted in the dying away of butterflies. We hope through this case study would find a new spring for butterflies.

After school, students may link to Internet through modem, much slow in speed.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

〈1〉Information arrangement:We may say we are the first group concerned about their existence. 〈2〉Members Recruit :Our members (including teachers) came from different grades and classrooms. 〈3〉Humane concerns : When we first conducted interview regarding butterfly catching issues, the interviewers were cautious and reserved, afraid of our accusations.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Love Nature from when we start getting close to Nature. We shall love our own hometown, and concern about our own land. Then we are able to have a paradise.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

(1)Students'learning:In teachers’ proper planning, students indeed have experienced the combination and application of subject competence, enabling them to satisfactorily complete Web page making. (2) Standard Curriculum:The research data will be put into the school’s databank for standard curriculum, providing teachers a research model in their native-place teaching and eco-education.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

(一) Interview : By interview, we have chance to explain our study subject and content. (二)Parent participation : Parents are encouraged to be a member of school network, jointly taking part in research activities. 3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

In previous concepts, people may have interest in the development of amusement park, offering facilities for tourists, while on the process satisfying humans, aboriginal beings, such as butterflies, birds, fish and so on are in sacrifice. Our research reminds the local residents about this. In addition, ecological environment have been in damage on the construction. Residents participating in our process are aware of the importance of knowing and respecting the Nature. With the joint efforts of the communities, urge the government to consider ecological protection on the construction process.

(一) Parents: During our busy interview activities, parental supports are our best motive power. They are generous in money support, physical support. (二)Community People (三)Experts and scholars : Professor Yang Ping-shih, Professor Yang Cheng-tze allow us to use research data on the network. (四)Public Institution (五)School team : Principal Lin Shih-lin ,Teacher Chien Chun-chi

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

‘visitors’ will be open to access the area. For visitors, it seems good news. For us, we feel depressed to face this. Avoidably, in the future, constructions built for visitors pouring in for enjoying hot spring will definitely bring destruction and impact to the existence of fireflies. Furthermore, the remaining butterflies will once again suffer from damage. We hope to urge the agency concerned in the government to regard ecological protection highly while engaged in local development and construction. As Aunt Yeh Mei-ching said, what we could do is only to offer suggestions in good intention to the future development of Fu Yuan Forest Amusement Park.
