Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan, our hometown, is a beautiful Formosa island. Taoyuan county is located in in the northern part of Taiwan, while Naily is a small place in Taoyuan county. Naily owns no special resource, but the localite is her more important property. Naily Primary School is an old school, and children here are our hope and future. After creative research the origins of Naily – 'Fan-Deng temple reappear elegance', our story begins with the children of Naily Primary School society & humanities association, meeting an aborigine and minority ethnicity hero, Tsai yao-hsing. Please watch how these loving seeds find out the light of life, not only turn on the light for themselves, but also learn to turn on the lights for the others. p.s. Too many people to thanks! Especially thanks for the English teacher and volunteers to join our work timely, they held the children complete both Chinese and English website, so as to extend the children's international eyeshot form the hometown area.

2. Summary of Our Project

'Light on life' is a curriculum designed to respect life and concern human which belong to the life education. The research motivation arose by a true story, no arms swimmer Tsai Yao- Hsing, the ture life experience and actual service behaviors of all the little suns. During the research process, we met to an overwhelming disaster 'SARS' in Asia. We called up the great nursery staff of Sung-Shiang hospital in that time, and little suns mailed letters every week to encourage all the Sung-Shiang heros. These Taiwan heros lighted on their life, so we learn how to respect life, spread concern and love to others and protect ourselves. During the period of summer vacation, the little suns visited Ching-Jen protectory to experience life and do the environment clean job together with the elders of the community. We give our hand to little suns, leading them to service human in daily life.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

SARS crisis: We learned how to expect life, give our love and concern, protect ourselves and concern others. The experiences and services for life:We need to learn more knowledge to do the services, we never think it is a difficult work. There are 10 peers joining us lately, but they are not familiar to do the web page. To solve this problem, we are grouped to 6 teams, then we can help each other. The difficulty that we met last research:When we made research web pages last time, we are disturbed thant we cant find the suitable music to put in the web page. The translation of English web page:Due to our English ability is limited, so many teachers and volunteers join us, like English teacher of our school and other, they help us by the net. We find a new hope in the world, despite of different nationality and race.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

During our investigation process, the teacher wanted us to respect he intellectual property rights. The words information and pictures adopted by littlesuns should be permitted and marked the source, even the photos of the little friend in resources class and the hospital should be covered in faces area. We consider that love should be respected.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This curriculum corpus is the children, teaching children to know and respect life, and match with the nine-year curriculum design, melt into the seven areas, combine school and community, strengthen the students' adapting ability to social , making children know they are the role of their life, and having the irreplaceable worth of life. By the long term research, the teachers and students act through team work- research-self reflection and evaluation , finally we are more confidence in ourselves, and willing to give our concern to the people , matter and subject around us, becoming ' use life touch life'- the whole man education.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

This time we used the following information technology product to complete our topic research plan: (1) Digital camera : we use it when we visit , it's convenient for us to put the pictures to the computer.     (2) Digital recording pen: we record the complete process of the visit's talk, and it's convenient to hear by the computer.     (3) Tradition camera and tape recorder: the resource of every student is not the same, so we support each other.     (4) Scanner: Scan the pictures , photos and the informations in books, then do further process.     (5) Digital video camera: we record the most fascinating part when we visit others or places, so we can watch this anytime.     (6) Computer:This is the important tool that we use this time, use computer to write report, connect the internet, check the data, handle imagines and write a letter,ect..     (7) Telephone: we collect various true stories everywhere in taiwan .     (8) Network: we use it not only check data, but also get the important messages and report the progress to the the confrerence. E-mail is a very important tool for us to get in touch.     (9) Related computer software: Like the Windows system, image processing software, web page manufacturing software, these softwares cant be lack of.     (10) Oral communication interview: The oral communication interview makes us realize the problem totally.     (11) Books, newspapers: the knowledge resource that this research activity needs.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Remember SARS bring the terrible experience to the world? That time, the anti-SARS deeds touch all of us.In Taiwan, many affecting story occurred at the hospital, little suns visited the vice- director of the Tsung-Shan hospital, and being witnesses of the hero actions. Because at that time, the Tsung-Shan hospital is the main responsible hospital for that period, so we contact the nursery staff by telephone and by e-mail. After that, the vice-director thought that these little friends are not so understand the whole matter, so he write down all the answer of the questions to us. Other experiences and service, the method of contact is all by visit ourselves .

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

The Biggest influence is that we realize the place we grow in is a common life community. We should learn to be responsible for our lives, light on our own lives, and also learn contented thanksgiving and cherish the blessing, create the love vitality and actions, work hard for our earth together.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

especially thanks to the Taoyuan county Education Bureau、Taoyuan countyEducation Burea、Hualien county Education Bureau- Miss Chen, shu-ying. Hualien professional high school –Mr.Liu, shi-huey. the vice-president of Tsung-Shan hospital—Mr. Tan, kuan-huan. the nurse of Tsung-Shan hospital- Mr. Tan, yi-yung. Ray-fong primary school- Miss Chang,Ruei-feng. Hsiao-li primary school- Miss Shao, yu-lien. In Neily primary school , the assistant teachers in the seven learning areas and resources class and other related people help and support this project.
