Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Shin-lin is a cultural county in north Taiwan.It developed very early. In chinese word Shin-lin means a lot of Knowledge persons living there.So it is a peaceful place for living.The famous Shin-lin night market is a nice place for tourist.

2. Summary of Our Project

Pastry is a special food for chinese festival.every festival has it's special pastry like wedding,new year,baby born etc.Kuo Yuan Ye is a creative pastrty producer from 1867. Mass producing is instead of handmading now. it has a challenge to overcome.and it make it to be a successful pastry producer.Its branch stores in this country not only share Kuo's products with the residents,but more importantly, spead happiness and well-being over them.

At school, We have four compuer room which accommodates 40 pcs connected by a intranet.There is ISDN line to connect to TAnet.each classroom has a pc.all computer can connect to internet. 40% of students have a computer at home.It connect with 56k modem or ADSL and cable moden services.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We had the warmest support amd blessing from our community such as, parents,teacher,Kuo Yuan Ye foods Co.,Ltd.We have some problem to face during this project.first,the old equipmemt of barking pastry was lost by flood many years ago.only a few of picture was stored on "Kuo Yuan Ye Pastry Culture museum" ,the students visited the museum twice and asked question to old pastry worker,To understand the old process of pastry barking.THe second,we have a problem in English.This is just a second year for our team to learn English.it was difficult to understand English ,We must get some help from their parent,and teacher.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

"We have a chance to realize our pastry culture." "English is more important for us to survive ." "it's a small world because we have internet"

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

THere is stated policy in our national curriculum for junior high school that the students should learn course work to understand and love our community. food is very important for everyone. student realzed culture from traditional pastry barking.it's a different experience for eating western pastry.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

WE used digital camera to record images.scanner change photos to images,we learn fontpage 98 to make project.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

we have two goals for this project.The first is let the world know the pastry cultur in taiwan. The second is let more of our community members know about school cyberfair.We make this project to shoot the goals.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

our project shows the positive side of computer and internet for education. computer is'nt only game and wasting time for children.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

first we want to thank Kuo Yuan YE Co.Ltd.the minister of culture Ms.Wu gave us many information about pastry barking. Ms.Shih By-Lan(retired teacher)told many old story of pastry barking. and we want to thank to computer teacher in our school who gave many assitance for this project.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

English is a tool for us in our life,it's not just a exam. Internet is more important in our life
