1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan lies in the surging forward with great momentum of western Pacific Ocean, near to Chinese mainland in west, close to Japan archipelago in north, face to Philippines in south, and the Tropic of Cancer places on it. The measure of area isn’t huge which is occupied about half land by Central Mountain, the current is swift, but races from other places reclaimed wasteland and garrisoned it constantly. According to documents, Taiwan Baseball originated from the initial stage of 20 century, Japanese governed Taiwanese, so it affected us a lot. To middle stage of 20 century, Hongye Teenagers Baseball Team from Taidong defeated Champion of World Teenagers Baseball and Geshan Teenagers Baseball for two times and won in friendly matches. The excellent achievements drove the whole development of Taiwan Baseball. Baseball, is a white ball which is sewed by 108 red threads, is controlled in one hand, and makes up a sport with a stick that possesses the most people appreciating in this island-Taiwan.

2. Summary of Our Project

Taiwan Baseball developed about one century, look back the period of enlightenment of time when Japan occupied Taiwan, Taiwanese proud on the glorious history of Taiwan Teenagers Baseball and development, three-stage baseball developed completely and excellent Adult Baseball. But after the event of Professional Baseball playing false ball harmed the fans and injured baseball basic sport, it began getting into downgrade, the results of international tournaments were embarrassing. 2001, the 34th expire of World Cup was held in Taiwan, each national flag was waving in the field moved everyone. Everyone could be affected by Chinese Taipei Team struggling to the very end and the boldness to distinguish losses and gains and who had ever watched broadcast or made an extra effort on live!It brought our motive to have a special visit for a heroic figure of baseball. We undertook from Teenagers Baseball, Coach Lin Hua-Wei was a major figure of World Cup and it was a harvest of magnitude to visit to him personally. His wise life philosophy leaded us experience William Potter again-the times of baseball, and pilots us to enter the baseball world.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Our members are all on the third grade who have heavy schoolwork pressure and have no much time making homepage or searching information;under this situation, the most difficult problem for us was to use our time well and look after sides of studies and homepage making. On the process, discovered many difficulties, got a lot of experiences that couldn’t found from textbooks and recorded a proud chronicle in our junior high school’s career. In the beginning, it wasn’t smooth going to contact with players and coaches. Then Xu-Shao-Hui was refused to call to Baseball Association, we were despaired, and teachers encouraged us to communicate with sincerity continuously, wrote e-mail to leave a word on the Bulletin Board. Later, a net pal answered. Although there was no further development, we have learned how to search assistance through negotiations. The second tough question was coherent of members. During the meeting, some members couldn’t concentrate on it or they were late. With teachers’ request, we encouraged with each other, and we could keep up successfully. The third was the data we searched often had repetition at the beginning, the working schedule was messed up, it made many mistakes by e-mail transmission and some people didn’t receive the important message. So we handed the disk to our teacher, after copy to pass out. Mr. Chen had an idea to use the cyber hard disk of Yams to transmit data; it could conserve disk consuming and copy expenses. It was really convenient. Besides, no appropriate place to meet. We had been in the blacklist of library because we talked loudly and one time we ate candy in it, so we were expelled.(After the teacher was busy running about it, we altered to computer classroom. On the holiday, we just only meet in the breakfast store which is near Neiyi senior high school, and didn’t end until the store closed.)

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The most influence for us are the words of Coach Lin: “No matter it is happy or hard or grieved, it’s all my harvest.” “You have to face up and empathize on the failure, it’s more disconcertion of life, less success.”

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

I got it. There was no pressure in this game. And we learned that 1.How to use network to search information. We could use discussion area of related websites to find many valuable data. This is a better way, not just like looking for a needle in a haystack. 2.How to redact a report and write meeting actuality. 3.How to establish contact, and we could quest the assistance of wap. 4.How to codify and rearrange the information 5.How to use the skills and methods in the interview and the draft the title.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We have 40 computers which all are PIII in each computer classroom. We type our reports and build website in it. Our teacher lend us a digital camera to take pictures about this project. When we do a oral interview, a tape recorder must be needed. The content of our project are from books, the net, or the library. We also use the macromedia software to build website, which donated by global schoolnet foundation last year.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

At first, we found the website of Chinese Baseball Association and consult them to help us by phone and request other websites assistance through wap, such as House of Ajia, official website of the 34th expire Baseball Championship Contest in World Cup, Chinese Professional Baseball League, Taiwan League, etc, we also left a message on the Bulletin Board of National Institute of Taiwan Physical Culture. One called himself a student of Coach Lin-Hua-Wei who suggested us to write to Taiwan Institute of Physical Culture. But the times was tight, the other side was busy preparing the final exam so it was no further development. We didn’t adopt it, but we still thank for his suggestion. Finally, through a good friend’s assistance of the teacher-Coach Cai, we could make contact with Coach Lin-Hua-Wei successfully and visit to him and represent our sincerity directly. The special visit was just smooth going. Thanks Coach Cai.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Originally, we would have a special visit to players who were Zhang-Zhi-Jia, Chen-Jin-Feng, Hong-Yi-Zhong, and Coach Lin Hua-Wei. At that time, just after World Cup, everyone’s schedule was filled, so it was not easy to contact with players. Therefore, we major visited to Coach Lin Hua-Wei. We discussed an issue about the development of baseball in this interview and hope to advance the sport of baseball, even form baseball teams. Hereupon, we cosigned to write a letter to the principal and discussed it with him.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

It’s an accidental for me to take part in it. Teacher Chen encouraged us to take the game of making up a team. He is our preceptor(we call him Xiao-Cun teacher stealthily)who serves as a computer teacher of the third grade association activity, so Xiao-Cun teacher helps us in technique aspect a lot. He confers Teacher Xie instructs us how to undertake the frame of contents and how to write a report. Besides, we are grateful of many people assistance; we could play softball successfully on Jan 20, which gave us good memory for thought. The classmates were willing to help us Peng-Chen-Fang, Wang-Qing-Yi, Sun-Jia-Hong, Luo-Shi-Zhi, Jiang-Yi-Xuan, Wen-Xin-Min, Zhang-Min-Xuan and Xu-Shao-Hui

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In a word, we have more confidence for taking part in the game, “Carry out what’s your dream.” It’s not impossible to have visit to a public person, we learn how to keep track of him, the contents and methods of interview and take notice of etiquette all time.
