4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The time is so short that we should try very hard to finish the web page. And we have a busy school life.  When we went visiting the natives, we faced a problem because part of them could only speak their mother language. It's not easy to communicate with them.inally, we found a classmate's father to help. He drove us to watch aboriginal remains and introduced the Paiwan's history. Also, Lily elementary school which he teaches at  helped a lot.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Listen to the Voice of Origin  Ponder the Noise of Modernity

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We have improved our computer skills through the practical working experience. Some of us didn’t even know how to make homepages before this project. Now we are quite good at that.  Through the Internet, we discussed and shared this project on-line, which  reduced lots of inconvenience that traditional work might have. For example, in the on-line library we found the material we wanted without going to the library in person, which saved us lots of time. Moreover, team workers finished their individual work at home during the time they scheduled. It is very convenient and efficient.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We have improved our computer skills through the practical working experience. Some of us didn’t even know how to make homepages before this project. Now we are quite good at that.  Through the Internet, we discussed and shared this project on-line, which  reduced lots of inconvenience that traditional work might have. For example, in the on-line library we found the material we wanted without going to the library in person, which saved us lots of time. Moreover, team workers finished their individual work at home during the time they scheduled. It is very convenient and efficient.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We divide our team into 8 groups and from time to time we discuss face to face.  We research a lot of data, and then make the pages by the Internet group.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

After the project, we better understand the cultures we grew up and live. To our surprise, we found that we didn’t appreciate their beauty and cultures until we were engaged in this project. And we started to build a stronger relationship with local residents and communities. When we told them about our project, they generously offered their support and assistance and they felt very excited about making their places known to more people through the Internet. Some of them even wanted to learn to use computers and surf the web to have a look at our final product. We are very happy to lead more people to the computer world to share the convenience that modern technology brings to us.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The Paiwan people were very nice and enthusiastic. Many of them told us the histories that had happened in the places long time ago and shared us with their traditional stories. They even gave us their suggestions as to what should be introduced. At that time, we felt so encouraged. With the help, support and encouragement of the locals, we finally get our project done. We thank them from the bottom of our heart.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

The society is so competitive. In order to go with the trend and to adapt to the changing society, the future generations of original tribes have mostly leave their homeland. Under such circumstances, they yield to the pressure of the reality and thus have abandoned the original culture and mother tongue. However, for the ones who are trying to conserve aboriginal culture, they feel helpless. This really makes us sad. Shouldn't we pay more attention and give our concern to both the cultures of the natives? In order for a civilization to last eternally, we believe, not only should we carefully protect the traditional culture and historical heritage, but we should also educate the next generation-- let them know the values of the existence of their native culture and regain their world view. Only that their meaningful culture is to last forever!
