Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Grand Crystal is located in Guan Du of Bei Tou District in Taipei City. It faces toward DanShui , with Yang Ming Shan in the east. In the neighborhood, there are Guan Du Bridge, Guan Du Birds Preservation park, Mangrove Wild Life Preservation Area, Yang Ming Shan National Park and Bei Tou hot spring. The rich natural resources in this area create the first Chinese glass art museum¡XGrand Crystal. The museum shoulders the responsibility to promote glass art education and introduce the delicacy of glass art to the world. Its ultimate goal is to usher the foreigners into the life tastes and aesthetic views of the Oriental.

2. Summary of Our Project

Usually, a piece of work that can be replicated is called product instead of art work, and crystal glass is an art work that is commercialized. The Grand Crystal Co. Ltd. Successfully turns crystal glass into an artistic product of value and establish both an art enterprise and a Grand Crystal museum for the promotion of crystal glass for next generation. We attempt to analyze how an organization become an enterprise and even a professional museum? How does it contribute to education and society? How does it successfully transform art into commercial and what is its success composed of? We will invite you to the world of glass art enterprise, Heinrich Wang, glass history, museum, glass art and etc..

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Contact Problem While we worked on the website, the Grand Crystal was having a decorating products promotion party. The creative supervisor, Hsinrich Wang and his program planner also went abroad for the promotion. We could hardly contact any person in charge of Grand Crystal business. However, our persistence touched the company and they would spare some time to provide as much information as they can. We deeply thank them for their great support.

Not enough computer knowledge Many of our team members are new in the contest; therefore, we have to start from zero. We read, did research, discussed and asked senior school mates to solve technical problems.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It takes a ¡§heart¡¨ to ¡§realize¡¨.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our team is composed of students of Information Technology Department and Media Design Department. Their cooperation helps them learn from each other. What we¡¦d learnt from school is not enough for a contest website, but the experiences force us to cultivate good habits¡Xpunctuality, promise and good team work. We also learnt how to take care of a website, and message board, how to host a meeting and run a smooth discussion schedule, and how to contact every unit of our school for various kinds of support. Obstacles in the process make us realize that we are trouble solvers instead of trouble makers. We learn to stick to excellence and keep up the good work.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

To contact Grand Crystal, we prepare a detailed construction web project to explain away their doubts about what we will do in the website. We want to do researches on how Grand Crystal produces and reproduces the delicacy of glass art works and finally establishes a Grand Crystal Museum. We want to ask what factors lie behind their success that attracts thousands of visitors and buyers. Telephones and Emails are main contact tools between Grand Crystal and us, but we also spent some holidays visiting Grand Crystal.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our website can be seen as the Incarnation of Beauty. The gorgeous of glass design not only attracts students who know almost nothing about glass art but also have them desirous for first-hand information not yet submitted to the server. The not yet published website thus becomes the focus of our school. Since glass art has its depth of human souls, we decided to post ads for having a 24 hour non-stop communication with glass art admirers. The ads received a lot of eager responses and the communication was a great success.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We thank Grand Crystal Organization provide information about their history, present development and future plan so we can have a more complete introduction about the glass art in Taiwan. We especially thank creative supervisor Hsinrich Wang, products promotion Rui Yan Zhou, Sales, Mr. Liou and many other employees for their great support.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Through the project, we gain deeper insights into crystal glass and its historical development. Contacting an organization helps us understand how a company run its business and overcome problems. We are also impressed by Hsinrich Wang¡¦s attachment to glass art and his life philosophy.
