Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Chia Tung is located in the south of Ping Tung Country.There are twelve villages in this place . It has the most historic sites in Ping Tung ,including a third-rank one--The Hsiao's ancestral dwelling, that also is the largest and integrate Hakka ancient dwelling in Taiwan.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project will introdce the historic sites of Chia Tung, research its origin and report its current situation.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

1.ADSL 2.Two servers 3.Local Lan:40PC in the computer classroom.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1).Data collection When we collected the data of the historic sites, the shiau's ancient dwelling was renovating. Most of the photos we took could not be used. So we asked for help from Chia Tung?literature and history work room. We also got many original condition pictures from our one member's grandfather--- the descendant of the Shiau's. We also found some useful data from the local culture papers of class 1-2. We all thank them.? 2).Make MP3 Hakka's songsWe recorded the WAV file of Hakka's songs from tape and CD, and changed them to MP3 files with a MP3 maker program. 3).Reduce the sizes of animation gif files We used the SmartSaver and Animation Gif to reduce the sizes of the PhotoImpact animations.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Participation in Cyberfair was a challenge for our students.It was also an educational activity and a showcase to show our community.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Education reform tidal current trend to modernization , science and technology and localism. Each school gradually gathers local sources to establish school characteristic. Chia Tung has has the most historic sites in Ping Tung. Now we integrated many literature and historic materials offering by some local important persons to construct this project. This project not only facilitates teaching, but also broadcasts the historic sites of Chia Tung.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1).We used Fontpage2000 to make our homepages. 2).We used Flash4.0 and PhotoImpact5.0 to make animations and modified the pictures. 3).We used camera and digital camera to take pictures ,and used scanner to scan our photos. 4).We used tape recorder,disk writer,and MP3 maker program to make MP3 music.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We had a journey of Chia Tung historic sites arranged by our teacher, Shu Yuan Kuo. We invited a local retired teacher Zeng Sen Dah to introduce the sites for us. We also got some precious data from teacher Yung Fung Ho.We used e-mail to contact with our members and the guest book on taiwanschoolnet to communicated with other participatory teams.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Participating in Cyberfair research project can evoke our school to notice local cultural heritage. In community, it can integrate local human and material resources to join in the educational activity and show features of our communuty to world.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We invited a local retired teacher, Zeng Sen Dah ,to introduce the sites for us. We also got some precious data from a teacher of Chutian Junior High School, Yung Fung Ho.The English text is translated by Shouhua Lin,chairperson of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages. Lin is a Hakka of Chutian,Pingtung. The Hakka songs were offered by Chun-Chieh Lan--the principal of Tzu-Hui Institute of Technology.We also thank our teachers,Zeng Tzing-Fung,Tsai Shu May for their helps.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Chia Tung Historic Sites witness the history of anti-Japanese of Taiwanese.
