Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Pancit was the 'trade mark' in the city of Malabon. Various restaurant businesses built everywhere but the there is only one thing that visitors look into and that is our PANCIT MALABON it really makes a lot more ahead to our other local specialties. People are very supportive in terms of maintaining their businesses and as well as increasing the quality of food. The Festival last December 8, 2004 is a result of evident unity and preparedness of people for making the event a continous activity. As a result, a former silent village, has extensively transformed into a prosperous and peaceful city.

2. Summary of Our Project

Local specialties help our nation in developing our economic contrivance by continuous exposure to our fellowmen and also, tourists. This is such a big deal in terms of comprehensive prevalence associated with the sustenance and succor of our leaders toward their people. It also enhances the livelihood of the people of our realm as it widely introduces the delicacies of our society.

Our city is known for patis (fish sauce), bagoong (shrimp paste), kakanin , and the inevitable Pancit Malabon. Each morsel serves us delightment that makes us forget our name. It is one of the reasons why Malabon is popular, putting aside the main problem, the flood, which will make a difference from the expected to delicious specialties.

Malabon is always linked to Pancit Malabon, and by this CyberFair Web Project, we introduced Malabon in a positive way. It is a part of the service in our community to share this idea to other people and not politically motivated. And since the First Pancit Malabon Festival happened in the entire history, we focused on its highlights, particularly the people behind its success and the communication between the local leaders and the populace of our municipality.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Difficulties mold us to become better persons. We may never learn how to stand up unless willingness and determination criticize us.

As typical students, we have a lot of extra curricular activities and we belong to different organization, so we have a arduous time in dividing our time but still we conquered this circumstance through time management. We encountered a lot of dilemmas during the interview proper. We had a hard time finding the various stores of Pancit Malabon for the reason that we are not familiar on the location.

Due to so much popularity, Pancit Malabon store owners were very busy that they could not entertain us in our interview so we roamed around for the second time to look for the other stores but found out that we did overcome the same results. We had a tough time to communicate and set up an appointment with the chairman of the whole event, Mr. Jojo Flores, with our eagerness and compliance to get some ideas and information.

Unexpected things also did happen. When we were about to finish our last interview, we were shocked because the memory of our digital camera was corrupted. But it was a blessing in disguise because when we did our second interview, the store owners were already there and the pictures were better. All what we had to say was, 'This is what you call fate.'

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We introduced Malabon in a positive way. We cannot deny the fact that it is basically a coastal municipality, thus every time a typhoon attacks and high tide occurs, it is sunk by flood. But this reason is not the only reason that Malabon is totally submerged by pollution. It also doesn't mean that we do not have enough sufficient funds to supply all the needs to support the tree planting projects, cleanliness drive campaigns and more. It has a further explanation. Our city can be described as a lowland place that in times of rainy seasons, water from nearby areas diverges in the shoreline, thus turns out to overflow. Positive things can't go without the negative one or by means of criticism and we should always be optimistic. Disregard all the bad attitudes because flood is not a trademark of Malabon, although it affects our lives, it is where God put us.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

As we go on to this contest as a group, we seize the teaching and how important the lessons that we have encounter for the precedent years. As we go to school we are envisaged to become enhanced and responsible person that will guide us through out our existence. Applying these things that we've learned, we can form useful information for the next youth like us.

One of the core units that we pertain is Economics, it help us to budget our money that is given in our bare hands by our mentor. It gave us the initiative to endorse the products in Malabon such as patis (fish sauce), the famous Pancit Malabon, bagoong (shrimp paste), sea foods from Malabon fishery and more. We became more aware of the economic problems that we are experiencing right know. Another one prospectus is Filipino that teaches us how to deal with other people in the middle of an interview. This unit gives us the strategy to have a better interview to a prominent or an ordinary person. One surprising program of study is Physics because it helps us also to broaden our minds in requisites of making narrative reports. One of the useful prospectuses is Math that also helps us to liquidate our money that we squander for the entire competition. This is the most important subject matter that we apply, English, because it helps all of us to finish the narrative report and write-ups that is assigned to us by our guru. It guided us also to write coherent and well delivered articles. It also facilitates us to develop our grammar in order for us construct information in a certain place that we have been. Most of the entire syllabus is the Computer that gives us all the knowledge in making this mission possible because our coach edifies us all the strategies that will make this website peerless and unique. We have also discovered the different trade of industry that opened our minds about business and how to form a competitive but distinctive company. We also widen the skills that are within us since we are born to this world.

or us to come to an ending competition, it is defined as the process wherein an individual became more responsive in the real world and discovers his own competence as a person. By means of this challenge, each of us learns to be self-sufficient and applied the things that we learn in school.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Application of different communication tools like telephones, cellphones aided us to collect additional information for this project. We also made use of the photocopy machine to produce us a copy of indispensable documents given to us by specific establishments.

Digitalized cameras and scanners helped us to have the needed images stored up and served as remembrance for our experiences.

The following softwares help us in developing the web: Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver which improved the appearance of our webpage.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Communication is a vital part of personal life and is also important in business, education and any other situation where people interact with each other. Having a good communication skill is an important factor in presiding interviews, research and mingling with other people. With the use of technology, it is easier for us to interface especially with those people who are hectic. Having a conference with the people that we really don't know is very laborious for us for the reason that some of us are typically introverted that's why some of us had developed self-esteem. Before we had our interview, we implanted in our mind that we should have a unique self-confidence and we should have the guts and determination for a successful web making. As part of our preparation, we must be well-groomed, primed for the entire questions that we are going to ask and perhaps, so that we would be ready on the day before the interview, we played tongue twisters so that we can never go wrong, we also practiced hand gestures and studied some facts about public speaking. For us, time management is an important factor that's why we divided our group into two groups for us to finish our labor in a diminutive period of time. We are very blessed because the people behind our information showed us a generous leer and a warm welcome. They were very blissful because their own local stores are all featured in the web. We admit that a lot of time is wasted because of some reasons. But nowadays, we learned to value our time. Our team realized that it is fun being in front of other people and having small conversations with them.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

For the past three years, our school entries in CyberFair were Pipol, Pooliticos and Malabon:C.U.B.E. This year our entry is entitled Pancit Malabon Festival. These websites will serve as references for the youth that are willing to know about the people, places, regime and products of Malabon.

Particularly this year, it gives us a brief history about the origin of Pancit Malabon. It also gives us the opportunity to become an instrument to promote the products of our own. Somehow, we persuade the community to patronize our own specialties that will increase voyager that will visit the Philippines. We also helped the Department of Tourism to enhance the rate of tourism. Furthermore, it improved better communication and will fortify good relationship between the school and the locality’s businesses and together, will realize the aims and plans for the improvement of the community. As enthusiasts of the prominent Pancit Malabon, we are also lucky to know the people behind their success and personally witnessed them do there famous delicacy. This competition gives us the encouragement to strive harder, to reach our goals and honor our specialties. It trains us to be more resilient, perseverant and resourceful. The most important is the exuberance for team work that ended us to triumph.

Though, because of our enduring pursuance to cease this venture, we are still able to have in hand such abstruse information and even us, are truly astonished with our discoveries.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In the world we live in, there is no limit in searching new technologies that can make our work more convenient. Now in this era, we have learned to use our abilities to help the continuous poverty of the country. We will use this technology in raising the calamities of nation. One of these is the computer; it's one of the most effective and reliable machine that people depend in any transaction that they have to talk about. We became the instrument of youth that imparts enough skills to use our talents to help. The Philippines is a beautiful country, the splendor of this archipelago serves as a paradise. But there are still a lot of problems. It is a desire for us that we want to look for the solution. One of these riches is the skills of Filipinos in cooking. That's why we did this website, the food that is surely loved by the Filipinos: the Pancit Malabon. We feel all the scarcities in life, that's why all the opportunities were grabbed. This project will help our country to export products and advertise through internet. In this way, it is easy to attract investors in other countries. They can provide plenty of jobs here in our country.

We've seriously planned this website. We've shown all our best in making this. One did the designing of the web while the other members conducted an interview and research to all the people behind the Pancit Malabon Festival and wrote an articles. Therefore, it gave our team the self-confidence to proudly present this site.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We started our project last December 8, 2004, Wednesday. A mission that tested our talents and abilities, polished our strengths and molded us to become better students from the realizations that we discovered within ourselves. There are a lot of happy and unforgettable moments we experienced that eased the stress we felt during those hectic jiffies.

In times that we have our interviews, it is always happened that occasions are ought to be celebrated. Such of these celebrations are wedding ceremony, birthday. Once we yarned ourselves that we wanted to witness a funeral march and unexpectedly, we did.

Although we came from Malabon, we are not that familiar in the city for we are located at the boundary of Caloocan City and North Diversion Road . When we are about to go to Floresco to meet the most important person who is a part of our project, we were very shocked when the tricycle driver stopped in front of a morgue and a funeral parlor. All we had to say was, ” Kuya , in Floresco , Floresco that is owned by Mr. Jojo Flores.” The driver told us that there is really no Floresco other than that and he uttered, “Why? Are you going to visit a wake of a dead people?” During that time, we felt something like a mixed emotion if whether we are going to chortle or get annoyed. He didn't know that the man that we were referring to is the one who gave way for the success of the first ever Pancit Malabon Festival!

We even saw a one-of-a-kind tricycle in Malabon in such a unique design. We were really amazed in its appearance that we grabbed the opportunity to ride on it and the seven of us were fitted inside.

We often see unexpected events during the whole process of our entry that gave us exhilaration and taught us some lessons. We are now stronger than before with the help of Cyber Society and are now equipped with more ideas to face the struggles that are yet to come.
