Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

The Shi-Lo Bridge located on the Juo-Shei River and linked Chunghua and Yunlin County. The whole bridge was built with red iron bars. Every evening, the whole bridge gives out the unique orange light. Because of it’s special geography, Shi-Lo has developed many unique industries long time ago. We hope the beautiful bridge can be the linkage between ecology and agroecosystemof Shi-Lo. It’s believed that the beautiful bridge will be the indispensable mark for the local industries and historical resources

2. Summary of Our Project

Shi-Lo Bridge is called the Red Bridge. I t has been widely used as a major arterial since her inauguration in 1954.Now the bridge is going to be part of the local history. And the cultural value of the bridge is even more important than before. The tourial industry here shall be the new local sunrise industry of Chunghua and Yunlin County. Now Chunghua and Yunlin County hold the annual Bridge Cultural Festival every year. And the local residents have great expectations on the jubilee this year.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The research place is too far away from our school.And we find problems in getting more time to communicate with eath other.And we really need financial help.Fortunately we used the net resources well and we get financial helps from Quanta Computer Inc.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We learned how to edit webs and research social studies.We discovered students really can do things beyond their abilities.What kids need is a nice guide and demostration.And then they realized the importance of cooperation through the process.

The tools we used are as follows: 1.computers 2.digital still cameras 3.digitizers and scanners 4.tape recorders 5.computer softwares 6.books, newspapers The most helpful tool are computers and the net resources.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Well,our students are very friendly,polite and active. So they are very popular to the residents of Shi-Lo.They phoned the interviewers in advance and chatted with them casually.With their efforts,some the residents will get further realizations about the history and these valued cultural resources.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Well ,now Chunghua and Yunlin County hold the annual Bridge Cultural Festival every year. And the local residents have great expectations on the jubilee this year.We hoped we can let more poeple know the beauty and culture of the Red Bridge through our web.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We had many timely help from Lo Young Foundations and many companys there.They provides us direct literal data and oral explantions to explore the whole area's cultural and historical resources.And they showed us the drifts of these special products,it's valuable.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

Though it's hard for elementary students to complete the whole research,we find it's possible for our team members.The role of student advisers of elementary school student is far more important than that of senior and high school students.It's so touching and joyful to grow with students.We are so proud our team is so agressive in completing the web and they are really great.
