Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Our community is WUKU Shaing which is located in the north of Taiwan. Wuku Shiang belongs to Kuan yin Mountain traveling scenery place. We have Tanshui river is across our East-north and Sun yat-sen free-way goes by Wuku Technology Area which is the best technology area in Taiwan. They are many cars around the area,so the pollution is serious day by day.In case of the quality of living is low and we need a lot of human culture quality. So we set up the station to provide more human culture quality.

2. Summary of Our Project

We are curious that a dentist can play Hand-puppet show. We thought that the dentist is busy and why is he insterested in the playing Hand-puppet show. Dr. Lee said that my opinion is "the meaning of life is not how much wealth do you have instead of what can you give to the world". Wow... When Dr.Lee told us his opinion, we decide to do our best to do something to our society. Therefore,we decide to advertise the tranditional art of Hand-puppet show. We hope this art can combine our class with our real life closely, and the Hand-puppet show can be played forever even to all of the world. So, we set up the station.

Our school through ADSL connect to the Internet Centre of Taipei country. There are two computer classrooms at school. Every office and classroom also has its own computer, so most of pages were finished in these three places. At home, the ADSL and 56K Modern were used to collect the information and record the schedule.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

(1)Timetable: We are year 6쳌fs students; most of students cannot stay at school after study time. We used the break time in between lesson, lunch break and the time after study time to 17:30, sometimes on Saturday and Sunday. Students who cannot come to school will do their work at home.

(2)The problem of type-record: This is our first time to do the interview and we took two type-records. Although the teacher already reminded us that we need to listen and record at the same, we still could not do it. It is because we were so nervous. The speed of writing could not catch what the Dr. Lee said. So every took the turn to listen and write in order to finish the interview.

It is getting better in second time. The speed of writing is getting fast and the record is better, so we finish the work quick.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

쳌uLiving does not mean to have a great numbers of treasures, but in what you can offer to the world?쳌vWhen Dr. Lee shared his ideas with us, we decided to do something to help the society, which is to propagate the puppet-show into the village. Combine puppet-show with education and life in order to let every child and parent can start from simply making the puppet and control it, this action will let puppet-show continual.쳌v

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

(1)Combine with school쳌fs new course – Grade 1-9 Curriculum Our research subject 쳌uFeeling Handle by Fingers -- Interview Dr.Lee쳌vincludes wildly. Form쳌uSeven learning areas쳌v into쳌uten basic abilities쳌v. Take students쳌f living experiences as the main issue, make they learn the ability that can use everywhere. (2) Combine with technique information: Use computer, collect Internet information, write report, edit and make Internet page were learned in the class. Doing this project helped us to review what we learned at school and practice the technique of making page. (3) Combine with life education: From Dr. Lee, we learned that work쳌fs aim, meaning of living and the most important thing is to develop self쳌fs interest and ability. (4) Combine with home education: From puppet-show쳌fs performance, we understand that eating reflection towards personal health and grown, and we need to choice the right food that helps the body.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Have these technique tools쳌f help, the whole research process became easy, especially the using of D.V. that decrease the time to scan photo and picture.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Students did the whole interview; they asked a lot of questions. About the making of figures, history of puppet-show and perform puppet-show. They like puppet-show very much. Students also ask school to have the puppet-show lesson. In the end, the school decided that there is a puppet-show family workshop will be has next year.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Wuku is an industrial village; residents do not care about what they do in the free time. As well as this, residents did not attend community activity. There are not many places where family can go, and children only like to watch TV, play computer game.

In this whole project, we focus on the DIY making. It is because we wish through the learning process; children can make their own tools and continue the culture of puppet-show.

We discover a person, Dr. Lee, who loves art and enjoys life. We find out that how he mixes his job with his interest. The most important thing is how to make the life different. Due to the head master is looking forward this project and promise that our website can link with school쳌f. We hope through the power of net, there are more people will know Dr. Lee. Then from the workshop, we can bring something new and different to the community.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

쳌BParents Society Co-Chair Miss Chen, also is the group leader –Yi Qing쳌fs mother, help us arrange the interview with Dr. Lee and offer the relative information 쳌BYi-Zhang Chen who offers us the information about Dr. Lee and history of puppet-show 쳌BMember of He Luo Art Traditional Studio who explains and offers us the information and arranges the interview with other members of company 쳌BOur head master An-Xun Liu who supports this project 쳌BParents Society쳌fs help and suggest 쳌BChu-Yun Wang쳌fs helping to translate the report. 쳌BAll year 6쳌fs teachers and other teachers who help us

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We find out that not all dentists like to earn money. Dr. Lee. is not only doing the regular education of the cavity of mouth, but also spend his money to buy the equipment for Wuku and GengLiao elementary schools.

Our moral is that study hard does not mean we can find a good in the further. Study hard is a tool to lead we to looking for what our dreams are. The most important thing is to use what we learn from book into the life.

The surprise is Dr. Lee does not only combine work and education together, but also put traditional puppet-show, language education, the education of the cavity of mouth and home education together. These make he towards the way- 쳌ucreation쳌v, where he had been so long.
