Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Taiwan is a place combined with the technology and folks. Under this benefit condition, it creates the “new generation Internet star - A-Kuei”. This character releases the worry from students’ mind and makes the aged people with laughing life. A-Kuei gives laugh to all over our country and also expresses its ideology through Internet functioned with the closer personnel relationship. Consequently, we decided to start from our real heart to enter the Internet world without the boundaries from nations.

2. Summary of Our Project

Jung-Kuei Chang is a famous people in our country. He creates a famous animation cartoon star called "A-Kuei". This cartoon star brings Chang near hundreds million NT dollars income. Chang was born in a poor country-site, north of Taiwan. He had been failed seriously two times, but finally stood up after his working hard and never giving up his dream! When we are watching the big-facial puppet "A-Kuei" is saying his platitude: "I fu%$&#...!". We never recognize that he used to be a jobless man for 2 times - the main actor of the animation created by Jung-Kuei Chang. Jung-Kuei Chang is originally a director. Later on, because of the production for TV programs as the intermediate channel, this job makes Mr. Chang's job associated with the MTV production; yet, at that time, there were many rivals in the MTV markets with the low-pricing strategy to fight for any possible opportunities. Such a throat-cutting condition brings an end to Mr. Chang's director career. As per the second business creation, it was the time when the internet just thrived for its rosy future and the on-line cram school education prevailed then. This excellent shot just spurred his instinct inspiration for the thirsty lucrative opportunity again. However, due to his deficient awareness in the cram school education, again, he faced another failure in career. Finally, it was the 3rd time for his career to take off. Because he used to hear his grandmother said that keep pace with the global stroll; other wise you will fall behind forever. This saying spurred Mr. Chang and then he started to learn the animation production software named Flash. From the very innocent apprentice, he initiated his new career cultivation and this time he paced on the smooth way. Meanwhile, he also opened the new leaf for the Internet animation climax. Because he created the lovely character - A-Kuei and also, this A-Kuei, make his days come and allow us with the happy life never falling into boredom!

We use ADSL with up/down load rate 384Kbps/1536Kbps to connect International Schools CyberFair 2003 from our computer room in our school. Besides, the backup host computer is ADSL with up/down load rate 64Kbps/512Kbps.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

From our team-up, subject selection, interview to the webpage completeness, we had experienced with various challenges. Because the team mates of Dears are composed of the elites from the grade 1 to 2 students, they did not acquaint with each other very well. Therefore, they used to face with the controversy disagreement for the subject selection, the instructor decide the subject from the majority decision. The team title- Dears, is also the brainstorming results among us. Thus, we condensed our consensus and consolidation and quickly, we also faced another difficulty that we are planning to interview with the busy Jung-Kuei Chang with the tight schedules for overseas trips. We were always awaiting his secretary’s positive reply and we almost fell in the hopeless depression for this negative reply with our anxious worry despite our calm facial reaction. We even have a thought to interview with some questionnaires with the answer provided from Jung-Kuei Chang. Anyway, we eventually had his positive and kind response with the secretary’s arrangement for the interview date. We also had the license certificate in hand and this again heated up our depressed emotion. Furthermore, we also cherished this precious opportunity very much and following the procedures, we hurried up our webpage editing. In addition to the technology with the instruction from our teachers, we refer most of the problems to the relevant volumes and articles by ourselves. Although the reference duration was quite time consuming, yet within such a process, our class mates had experienced with some valuable knowledge. During the preparation period, it happened to be the China Lunar Year holidays and we were then not satisfied with the webpage with the pressure deep in our mind. Regardless of the well-organized task assignment, we faced with the deficient time for preparation with our best effort done!

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We have found that, through the project of International Schools CyberFair 2003, we had learnt so much technology for website design and there were additional harvests and experiences secured, including the interview with the VIP, how to prepare for the Interview, and how to prepare for the dubbing effect during the interview. After we heard the precious lessen from Jung-Kuei Chang’s “Never Give UP!” We all had kept this in mind and once we never give up, we can achieve after failure. The losers always find the excuse fro themselves; yet the winner seek the solution!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The envision of school is”multiple, innovation, and efficiency”! Thus, through the multiple learning and the innovational education methodology, we can improve our learning efficiency. By means of the participation of International Schools CyberFair 2003 Project Research Program, we have this opportunity to exert our creativity and adopt the problem-solving oriented environmental education methodology. This methodology is not the same as the customary education merely, but also the students will actively learn the knowledge hereof with better effect accordingly. The students will know how to refer to the available volumes and web reference information with the startling efficiency in learning. During the short period of winter vacation, as for the web page editing, there were many students unable to produce the flash programs, vector diagrams and transparent diagrams did not know how to use recording pen and some other devices. Now, they have learnt to use these devices well with the unexpectedly surprising harvests and novel experiences, including: how to contact and interview with the VIP, interview preparation, and animation dubbing operation and so forth. We are very happy for the participation in the contest of International Schools CyberFair 2003!

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The information technology adopted by us includes: Email, telephone, recording penpal, handset cell phone, dongles, digital camera, scanner, computer software, relevant volumes, Computer Room, broadcasting system, animation dubbing room, visual room, and practical interview. Below is the brief introduction: The computer of our computer room is Pentium 4 with LCD display. Actually, we adopt the recording penpal with the interview content of 265 minutes and the dongle we uses is functioned with 4.1million pixels with CCD Image sensor and the resolution of 640 x 480 ; 320 x 480 (15fps).

At school, the soft wares we adopt for web page editing include: Ulead PhotoImpact 5, Ulead GIF Animator 3, Macromedia Flash 5, Microsoft FrontPage 2000; at home, there are many class mates using the advanced soft wares like Macromedia Dreamweaver 4, together with other applets such as: dBpower AMP Music Converter for the audio file conversion, the recording programs for music editing, MS Painter for image processing…etc. At school, we also utilize the UMAX scanner and the books relevant to computer software technology. Within the mutual communication and connection, we mainly connect with each other through telephone, cell phone, Email, schedule report and the FTP system. These applications make us availably work during the China Lunar Year holidays.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In order to complete this project research, we had to contact with the producer of A-Kuei Cartoon Animation, Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang for interview. Firstly, we referred to the telephone number, address and Email of Spring House Entertainment Inc.; and then we started to dream up the interview reason unable to be rejected by them. The first phone call was made by our teacher and following that we could reached the secretary, Lisa with her extension number. Because Lisa was then very busy, it was not an easy approach to find her. After numerous phone calls, we finally reached the secretary with her Email address in hand. Consequently, we informed her about our research project by E-Mail and we also told her about our task at school. Because then Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang was traveling abroad, we did not have the concrete answer from his secretary with our mind hanging over. We used to try another way of questionnaires to ask for some information from Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang. However, surprisingly, we got the good message from them and we were accepted for the interview with him for the concrete appoint date designated. Despite the date alternation later, we were all quite delightful and excited for this interview approval. This was really a delightful interview and Spring House Entertainment Inc. also invited us for free attendance of the cinema “A-Kuei and His Magic Hammer”. We were gifted with 2 cinema posters; together with the wholehearted arrangement form our teachers and the radiant smiles of classmates.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Having experienced the International Schools CyberFair 2003, we grabbed the opportunity to know more about the celebrity from our hometown - Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang for his career struggle, together with his famous animation character A-Kuei to introduce it to the global community partners. Let them know about the never-quitting partner - Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang - about his inspiring tale.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

At first, I will appreciate our school for the allowance with us to produce the web page and offer our thanks to Jung-Kuei Chang for his available interview spared from his busy schedule with his valuable personal information. And he also cheered us that we should never give up to await any possible opportunity. Many thanks for Miss Ou, Dzi-Ling with her bravo vocal imitation for 4 different cartoon characters to welcome us and inspire us to find our own uniqueness. We must thank Mr. A-Tai for his assistance to make us enjoy the recording pleasure. Also, it is grateful to Lisa for her interview arrangement and providing us with the web page editing figure database. We want thank all of them from Spring House Entertainment Inc. to assist us for information collecting and interviewing. It is also obligated to our dear teachers, Hsiu-Yi Wu and Gwo-Bao Tarng, for their accompaniment with us with the web editing during the winter vacation.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We had clearly insightful idea that a winner must be accompanied with numerous efforts and frustrations behind himself to insist his stamina to catch any possible and approachable opportunity. Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang encouraged us to have”the creativity” instead of the opposite”customs”. Thus, we had to have the attempt of different thinking to get used to the various changes as well as the courage against the challenges. It could certainly bring us with the distinct life experience to reach various levels of life goals. Mr. Jung-Kuei Chang gave us a saying that we should never give up and stand up again after the stumble. The loser always finds the possible excuse, but the winner always seeks the solution. We all had kept this in mind and never forgot this precious lessen!
