When does Wave Vidmar's expedition to the South Pole begin?
American Wave Vidmar, 41, is preparing for a solo/unsupported expedition to the South Pole, beginning early November 2005.
Vidmar plans to leave from McMurdo Base, near Scott Base, on the southern portion of Antarctica, in hopes of becoming the first American to trek solo and unsupported to the geographic South Pole. The 900 mile journey is expected to last approximately 2 months.
Vidmar previously walked, skied, and swam over 400 miles toward the North Pole in 2004. Logistics forced him to be taken off the ice before he could complete the trek to the pole.
Asked about his coming trip, Vidmar had this to say: “I’m not going because I want to be the first American to the pole, though that is a positive benefit from this expedition. I want to go for myself, and to show others that they too can achieve their own dreams and goals. It takes belief in yourself, or at least the willingness to try.”
Vidmar will drag a sledge weighing 250 lbs (113 kg), with enough food and equipment to last 70 days. Much of his equipment he custom-made for this expedition. His training regimen includes dragging a 140-lb semi-truck tire, swimming underwater, mtn. biking, and eating lots of high-calorie foods.
Vidmar needs to gain an additional 30-50 lbs since his frame, he claims, normally holds 3% body fat (or less). He’ll need the extra fat and weight to fuel him, as well as help keep him warm. “Gaining weight is probably the biggest challenge for me, even more so than the actual expedition” stated Vidmar.
Vidmar plans to send out daily updates, including pictures using Contact 3 software. Schools around the globe will be able to participate, and a few classrooms will get to talk live with Vidmar from the South Pole via satellite phone. Once he reaches the Pole, he will fly out and head back to the States.

We are in communications with Wave and we will send out an announcement, as soon as we know more details.

What software should I use to build web pages?
Finding the right software for web page construction is like trying to figure out which is the right car to buy. Unfortunately, we don't have all the answers for you but we *can* help you make a decision.
Here are some questions you need to consider:
1. What type of computer will I be using to edit or create web pages, a Macintosh, or a PC?
2. Is my computer equipped to handle the latest software for web page construction? Two popular pieces of software are: Microsoft FrontPage - http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage/ Apple Web Construction Kit - http://ed.info.apple.com/education/products/webkit.html
You'll need to visit the above links to determine if your computer meets the minimum requirements to run the software.
3. When I build the web page where will it go? This is important because if you choose FrontPage to use as your web page editor (which works on both Mac and PC) you will then need to make sure that your Internet Service Provider or web hosting company supports Front Page publishing on their servers.
4. Do you know enough before deciding to buy software? Try to take some time to learn more about HTML and web page design before deciding on which software to buy.
A great place to start is our web tuturial on Harnessing the Power of the Web at: http://www.globalschoolhouse.com/web/
