Sharon Peters from Lower Canada College and I met through Reuven Werber who is working with the Ministry of Education in Israel in conjunction with the Israeli Pedagogical Network for Collaborative Learning. We were both involved in separate collaborative literature projects with this initiative. Reuven suggested that we might wish to arrange collaboration for the Global Virtual Classroom Web Design Contest, but it did not work out this year. We began a correspondence as we share many interests. Sharon agreed to help me with one of projects by replying to a questionnaire about education in her country. Through our correspondence we have mutually supported and encouraged each other. Some of the things I have learned from Sharon are new means of online communication she uses with her students. Sharon always tries to find interesting and challenging projects for her students. In 2004 they took part in Global Virtual Classroom Web Design Competition with schools in Israel and USA, their site Progression Through Time: The Digital Age of Technology won the Grand prize. In 2005 Sharon’s students worked with schools in the Netherlands and the USA, the site From Our Lockers to the World won the third prize. This year Sharon is working in the same project, with school in the USA and Kuwait. Other projects where Sharon’s students take part are International Collaborative Literature Project with Israeli schools and Global Classroom project with New Zealand. Sharon gives much of her free time to the work on international projects. We are discussing the opportunity to work on some project together next school year.
