Basic Project Information
Title: NATIONAL CUISINE AND TRADITIONS (ID:2635)
Begin & End Dates: 9/01/04 to 6/30/07

Age Range: 10 to 17 years
Target Audience: United States
Summary:
This project takes place in a designated forum section on the School Connectivity international forum site. The first forums will take place asynchronously.

Week 1: Participating students in the United States and Uzbekistan post pictures of themselves with brief, one paragraph introductions of themselves along with a one-paragraph essay ‘My Favorite Foods’. Week 2-3: Classes post recipes of their national dishes and food culture on the forum, along with short descriptions of the dish’s history or special place in traditions. Week 4-5: Classes attempt to cook their partners’ recipes, take photographs of their experiences, and post reflections of their experience. Week 6: Classes meet live online (if possible, or in a series of 3 days) to discuss their experience and ask each other questions about their cuisine. Week 7-8: An online collaborative cookbook is created using the material from the forums.

NATIONAL CUISINE AND TRADITIONS is one of several projects offered by School Connectivity for Uzbekistan, a program funded by the US Department of State and administered by IREX.

Objectives:
Students will engage in cross-cultural sharing of national customs and traditions.
